The Background

Emap plc is a multi-platform media group with a portfolio of over 200 brands. As part of its ongoing growth, the business focuses on innovation in order to develop new formats and solutions.

Emap recently approached CVL to help develop the business case for a new B2B solution in the online fashion space. CVL's remit was to define the financial model and associated revenue streams / costs for this new business.

The CVL Solution

CVL focused on two key work-streams:

1. Short-listing of potential technology partners that could provide the solution
2. Creation of the financial model

The short-listing was a key input into the financial model as it enabled the business to gain a strong understanding of the main cost elements as well as helping to identify the high-level timescales for the project.

The financial model was essential to the business case as it defined the structure of the report, the main assumptions, milestones and, most importantly, the revenue and cost elements.

The detailed financial modelling took varied business requirements and condensed them into a well-defined, understandable structure. The structure of the output and the detailed analysis was extremely well received at Board level within Emap.
