The Background

Channel 4 had made the decision to outsource its playout and post production services, which had previously been undertaken in-house.

Red Bee Media had already been selected as preferred supplier, with specialist technical and operational staff due to transfer from Channel 4’s Victoria office to new facilities at Red Bee Media in White City.

CVL was asked by Channel 4’s Channel Operations to initiate the project and plan the programme of work to ensure a successful transition of services.

"Thanks to CVL’s expert help
and guidance the services migration project now has a clear, structured management.
We are always impressed with the insight and focus of CVL’s experts, making sure that all of the relevant issues are highlighted and acted upon quickly and efficiently."
Steve White, Head of Channel Operations, Channel 4

The CVL Solution

CVL provided a team of experts with experience of outsourcing complex and technical operations combined with knowledge of broadcast and the client. Work was structured in two phases.

CVL conducted a detailed analysis and planning exercise with Channel 4’s executive and operational teams to consider the operational, technical and organisational elements of the migration project.

A series of recommendations were then made to the senior management team in Channel Operations, which included a high-level plan, key risks and issues, roles and responsibilities and a proposed project structure.

Acting as interim project manager, CVL led the project through the critical scoping, analysis and contract negotiation phases of the project.

The Benefits

Channel 4 is now delivering a migration plan that considers all the touch points of internal and external stakeholders, supported by clear project disciplines and governance.

Key relationships have been established between Channel 4 and the Red Bee Media project team, paving the way for a successful migration.

All stakeholders are engaged in the programme, enabling workflow changes to be managed and risks to be minimised.
