The Background

Having forecast significant growth in its e-commerce business, Arcadia recognised that their existing fulfilment operation was limited and insufficient to support this expansion.

After revising their operational and system processes based on their interpretation of their brands' requirements, Arcadia approached CVL to independently assess the feasibility and validity of the suggested solution and identify other opportunities.

Arcadia were particularly concerned with increasing efficiency and keeping stock levels and operational costs low.

"From my perspective, the deliverable was well-written, well-structured and with good content. I believe that CVL defined and followed the brief very well. I have no negatives at all with respect to the engagement."
David Hale, Head of Supply Chain Systems development

The CVL Solution

CVL analysed how Arcadia's proposed model compared to industry best practice, and considered how the solution could be implemented to provide optimal efficiency.

Other opportunities for improvements to the solution were identified, including suggestions for alternative approaches for each brand's specific requirements.

The Benefits

Due to CVL's careful investigation and consequent recommendation of the proposed process solution, Arcadia were able to progress with their plans without reservation.

Reassured that their approach was suitable and in line with best practices within the industry, they were pleased to receive further recommendations from CVL on how to make the solution even more efficient.

A number of significant opportunities were also identified that hadn't been previously considered. These included:
- Improved on-line stock availability
- Simplified product flow for lead lines and best-selling products
- Optimised common inventory

CVL provided detailed analysis of processes, which played an important part in the final layout of the key production areas.

Alternative options for wave management and labour scheduling were also identified as a result of CVL's work.
